FAQ

Location Based Mobile Information, Navigation And Management System

WHAT IS GPS?

GPS stands for Global Positioning Satellite. Currently there are 24 operational satellites and 2 spares that are orbiting the  Earth and transmitting navigation signals. A GPS receiver on the ground or in airplane  receives these signals and calculates its geographic position; Latitude, Longitude and Elevation and the time. The Global Positioning Satellites where launched by the US Department Of Defense (DOD)  at the 80's and became fully operational at the beginning of the 90's.

Accuracy of the GPS location determination depends primarily on the GPS Operator, i.e. the US DOD. Currently regular horizontal position accuracy is defined statistically to be in the range of +/- 30 meters. Actual location accuracy is usually better. With DGPS, Differential GPS, technology better accuracies can be obtained. See DGPS

WHAT IS DGPS?

DGPS stands for Differential Global Positioning Satellite.

What Is AVL?

AVL stands for Automatic Vehicle Location
